really weird to me that you pose this as a hypothetical.

for me on the pragmatic side work is a sense of purpose, a way to occupy my head, a way to make sure I have what I need, can give what is needed and a way to make sure I don't end up old and poor

I don't care about money as long as I have enough of it that I don't have to worry about me or peeps I love and I'm scrub to the core and my people are self-sufficient so that amount is low.

I'm a workaholic though with some lucrative sources so objectively I earn a lot. the vast majority of my spending is straight to savings. was actually talking the topic yesterday with a chica so funny to come across it here too.

for me work is a mix of feeling like my time on this dot means something, the ability to buy grapes even if they are not on sale, my bag-lady-prevention safety-net and an after school program to keep my mind out of trouble.

want to be clear that there's no reason or motive more valid than any other when it comes to drive to work though. anyone who gets out of bed and does productive ish, paid or not, that contributes something deserves respect for the act

those who tear down to earn though? that's where money above all gets scary :/
