Has anybody actually took the collocation hosting route, what are the savings and is this a good plan? I am located in Europe and something close to Germany could be good but the question can apply to all the parts of the world.

Lets say you need a good extendable hosting for a large tube site (self hosted clips) and you want to save max amount of money on this. I guess collocation could be an answer, but would this work? What would be the costs, and so on?

Thanks.
I stopped doing server colocation back in 2003. Sure you provide all the equipment but you also have to provide the support as well. It wasn't fun getting up at 1:00 AM to do my own support. The worst of it is you against all the hackers trying to steal your content to make money with file lockers, making a warez host on your server, or simply using your server to send out SPAM. When you add up all the additional support from monitoring service to maintenance, you're really not saving anything. Get a managed dedicated server for your own peace of mind.

Today, I host in the cloud ... secured and managed. I'm in the business of making money not supporting servers.
