There was another time too now that I think about it.... I landed in Budapest for TES and I was all alone. It was my first time in a foreign country in a long time and I landed at midnight exhausted. I was standing in a long line to get a cab when someone walked up to me and said in good English "Do you need a cab sir?". As a matter of fact I do. I followed him down into the parking lot not even noticing that I wasn't getting into a cab. Twenty minutes into the trip I suddenly realized I had no idea where I was, where he was taking me, or where I was supposed to be going. I started making mental of notes of the car he was driving, what he was wearing, etc.
He brought me to a dark ally and announced we were there. I kept my distance from him as he got my luggage out thinking if he attacked me I would at least be ready. He said "Follow me" and walked down the ally.
It turns out the street in front of my hotel in Budapest was closed due to construction, and this ally was as close as he could get me. He carried my luggage to the front door.
It turned out okay, but I'll never do that again.
