This happened a while back. It was actually at the last job I had before quitting and starting to work for myself. I was working the night shift and a friend of mine also worked there so we would carpool. It was my week to drive so we get off work and I drop my friend at his place. He lived a couple of miles off the main highway so at 3 am the roads were pretty dark. I came around a corner and saw a car in the ditch with a guy sitting on the ground holding his arm. I stopped and got out to see if the guy was okay. He told me he was fine. I asked if he wanted me to call anyone for him and I asked if he needed an ambulance. He told me he had someone on the way. Just then his cell phone rang. He answered, said a few words, and then handed the phone to me. I assumed it might be the person coming to help him and they might need directions. I took the phone and said, "Hello?" A very calm voice on the other end said, "Thank you for your concern. Now, get back in your shiny white car and drive home. None of this ever happened. Are we clear?" I had a white car and nearly shit myself. My legs went weak. The guy then said, "Now hand him the phone and go." I did exactly that.
About a mile down the road my legs and body started to tremble as I realized I may have just dodged a seriously ugly situation.
