It likely wasn't Amazon shipping it. You probably bought a listing that was fulfilled by the merchant. When I do Merchant fulfillment on Amazon, usually my package is at their door before my actual ship deadline.
Amazon gives a retarded amount of time to actually ship non prime items. It's like 3-4 days on most things before I'd have to print the label and ship it. Then you still get 24hr for it to get scanned after the label is printed.
