Portugal had a 1% total population on heroin problem in 2000, they made it legal for ALL DRUGS, 10 day supply limit, and now they have 3 per million OD compared to 144 per million here in the US and 44 per million in the UK. The lowest in Europe.
They solved the drug problem so why can't we?

I've been using Portugal as a good example of a way to deal with drugs for a long time and most people blow me off by saying, "The US is much bigger, more culturally diverse country." I personally don't buy that. I think we could pick a place, try it out and see if it works. If it does we roll it out nationwide. The problem is that we have been fed lied and propaganda about the drug war our entire lives so there is a big segment of the population who thinks the only way to fix the problem is to lock more people up. When people have believed something their entire lives it is hard to change their minds.
