The stadium opens in September, there will be 3-4 games a week, 8-9 months of the year, bringing an estimated 15000 people to the Downtown core several times a week. There will be concerts weekly, events going on and more businesses moving into the surrounding area with walking streets, Q line tram system and Canada just across the border. All in all, Detroit is in the best shape it has been in over a decade and it looks like it'll continue improving. Sure, crime is still a concern but this is the same in a lot of US cities, I wouldn't rule out Detroit as a good place to visit for a weekend now.
So there is no $5000 houses for sale in da hoods of Detroit? Those houses that were in many "top 10 of cheapest places in US to buy a house" etc lists?

Pretty sure that is what people mean by saying you can get cheapest in detroit. They do not mean the nice areas (obviously, imho).
