Fake news is what helped to get Trump elected - pizzagate and such nonsense. People believe in this crap; One person picked up their firearms and went to investigate, shooting the place up. Now the Trump administration is calling it "Fake news" if they don't like it.
The difference between real news and fake news is simple:
Real news is when a company puts up an article, but after quick review decides it isn't backed up by facts, and quickly takes the article down. (And then fires everyone involved.)
Fake news is when a website no one ever heard of publishes an article, which is then picked up by another site no one has ever heard of, and then is picked up by Fox News which runs with the article, and then defends it even though they haven't checked any of the facts.
The difference between the two is in one case an article was written by real journalists and then quickly removed due to lack of facts, while in the second case it was a blog post picked up by a little known news site which was then accepted as fact by a major news company who never checked any of the facts.
