I'm moving in twenty days. I looked up my section of town (Acoaxet, Ah-cox-it) and I'm pleasantly surprised. Right now I'm in a city that's 66% Portuguese with 7,000 Cape Verdeans. In a city of 100,000 that's what, 7%? I speak a few words of Portuguese and one of Creole, the Cape Verdean (Cabo Verde) language. I've got the "no speaka Portuguese " down pat.
When I move, I'd bet I'm one of thirty or less Jews. You'd think a wealthy area would be full of Jews!
I used to go there in the summer as my parents had a permit. There are two fenced, guarded posts to get through. Break through one but the next gets you. I thought it was snobby growing up, and still do, but there are lots of gated communities in Mattapoisett, Marion and Dartmouth.
Crime is rarely an issue. They keep out outsiders and the police are active. But -- if you get there by boat to a private dock, you probably could cause crime, though there must be 24/7 spotters watching. I'll ask about that as you now made me curious.

)
