the problem with just 2 parties and a very little number of independents does not make a democracy.
There are around 50 political parties to choose from in the U.S. and around 30 or so had nominees for the Presidency in the last Presidential election. The Democratic and Republican parties are the two most popular of all of the parties. It is also true that U.S. is not a Demorcracy but instead is a Republic.
