Since 1992 I have drank well water, my last 3 homes have had their own water wells. Currently, my drinking and cooking water is pumped from the ground aquifer then carbon and reverse osmosis filtered.
My dog, dead now for some years, would not drink tap water because of the chlorine smell -- he preferred to drink from a puddle.
I just drilled a new well two years ago -- $4,800, that's cheap, the drillers hit the aquifer at 60 meters down here. In some areas you have to drill 120 meters down or more. It is not unheard of for water walls to cost $10K to $16K ... A wellhead lasts fifty years but need to be repaired and/or re-pointed in 10 to 20 years. The water pumps are called point pumps -- the pump is at the bottom of the wellhead -- the wellhead is a 5 inch PVC casing that is cemented in the bore. Only problem is that if the power is out -- the well stops pumping ...
