It is just once instance.
A 2 degree temperature will kill off much of what lives in the ocean because of the way the water will change. It will become unlivable for plant and see life. What lives in the Dead Sea or the Salton Sea?

So the ocean had no life when the Earth was MUCH warmer in history?
