Taxis and even uber are relatively expensive because human is involved and that human wants to get paid. So cost of a taxi is cost of the car + cost to pay the driver. Eliminate the driver, and the only cost is the car, making it much cheaper. At that point it would make no sense to own a car, because a big company will always be able to utilize the car more efficiently, maintain it better, etc than you, so their cost per mile driven will be lower.
Unless of course owning a car is more about pleasure of driving than actually getting from place to place.
