I agree that the owner would likely be responsible for anyone hurt or killed by the driverless car they owned, however, I don't think this is a deal breaker. It will come down to how effective and safe these cars are. If they cause significantly fewer accidents, which would be expected, then I think people will still use them. You would just have to carry insurance just like you do on a regular car.
