According to Wikipedia, Etherium isn't limited to Solidity:
Ethereum Virtual Machines have been implemented in C++, Go, Haskell, Java, Python, Ruby, Rust, and WebAssembly (currently under development)
Being an old school (and just plain old) coder I love C, but I'm not sure I'd want to be using it for a smart contract that could ultimately control millions of dollars of other people's money... when it comes to financials there's a whole lot more to it than just learning a new programming language.
