McGregors over the top brashness and cutting witty banter have attracted a large fan base for him. Also, I think naturally people are always attracted to the big underdog.

Mayweather really doesn't have anything to gain, other than 100 million. If he wins, he was supposed to win, so it's not impressive. However, he loses or the bout goes to a decision, people will say he's washed up and doesn't have it anymore.
