They have machines, they only needed to get transported after the earthquake.
Mexico City is a city of 20 million people with a lot of building taking place.
So there are many many many generators and tools in the city.
Problem was that some Phone networks went down and no communication possible. I heard what happened from Holland cause my Dutch provider looks automaticly which network is available and i get messages from Holland how big it was. Telcel (the biggest) wasnt available in my neighbourhood. So motobikes had to drive to central points to get doctors from there and tell where buildings where collapsed. Also a lot of helicopters circled around to see where help was needed.
There is be electricty know where it is needed. The big machines arrived around 4 hour after the quake and also had big lamps. The time inbetween people digged by hand to survivors.
Now they asked for tools to prevent the buildings to collapse.
I have seen that at least 20 new buildings and higways that are being build.
When i left the city in the morning, they started building like normal.
I think they could give the workers a week off, and transport all that materials to where they are needed most.
But that is my logic. Wallmart should have opened and give the water for free and later sent the bill.
Things that could be better next time.
I asked in a group for foreigners in Holland if there are local projects or if someone is starting them. I will keep you informed. The red cross opened a number, but that is only emergency money. And probably they have enough, other countries sent millions. The help for the people to rebuild houses will be the most expensive. But some will have insurances. Now restaurants give free food to the rescuers and people who need it. Mexico is a big city and luckily not everyone is poor and they collect food and clothings etcetra.
After the first earthquake 2 weeks ago Chiapas was hurt badly. That is a realy poor region in Mexico. Those people don't get support and still don't have the materials or money to rebuild their houses. In that region people make like 50 - 300 USD a month. The houses there are simple and cheap.
There is a page where you can donate.

Personaly i wont give to those big organisations that Always have big cash for emergencies. I wait for projects for people that will be forgotten.
