No, that is not what I said.
The original investigation started before Trump started his campaign, and the original investigation started before Manafort worked on Trump's campaign.
However, since the start of the investigation we've learned that Manafort was offering weekly briefings about Trump's campaign directly to the Russians.

No, that is not what I said. I said originally Manafort's illegal activity had nothing to do with Trump. Again, Manafort was under investigation before Trump was running for office and before Manafort was his campaign manager.
Manfort would still be under investigation or charged (or in prison for the rest of his life) even if Trump never ran for President. While Manafort was under investigation, he began to work for Trump.
Stop putting words in my mouth. The original investigation was not political at all; The original investigation started long before Trump ran for office.
