They are protesting and the stink that was raised about it was pretty much the same shit we are hearing about the kneeling now.
It was viewed as disrespectful by many, just as the kneeling is now.
edited in: The NFL players are taking a knee. "Taking a knee" is pretty much a football thing, that is why you will not see athletes other than football players doing that. You do not "Take a knee" in baseball or basketball. They have used other methods of protest at times.But protesting by not standing at attention and facing the flag has been used by more than Football players.
