I thought about testing this on my sites, but I did some math, and....tell me if this sounds wrong:
On my shitty laptop if I give it 1 unthrottled thread it does 10 hashes per second. So I'm gonna generously assume an average of 10 hashes per second per user, because I'm gonna have to throttle the miner back to like 20-30% CPU, but some people are gonna be on beefy desktops that can mine way faster than my laptop. (Realistically I think it will be less than 10 hashes per second per user.)
Now, my average session is about 8 minutes. Let's pretend I have 100k sessions per day. Then that's 800,000 minutes, or 48,000,000 seconds of mining time time. 10 hashes a second gets us 480,000,000 hashes per day.
Coin-hive payout is 0.00014238 XMR per 1m hashes, so thats 0.0683424 XMR per day. XMR is currently $99 usd, so that leaves us with $6.76 per 100k daily engaged users. And that's assuming more hashes per user than I think is realistic.
Personally? I'll stick with banner ads and skimmed traffic.
