I think what Melania was referring to was the fact that being in the White House and not being able to move freely out in the world is like being in prison and I can understand that.
But if I had spent time in a Venezuelan jail and she me told me that, I would say "fuck you".
This isn't about disrespecting America, it's about being tone deaf and ignorant towards someone who has spent time in jail.
