Most Americans whites and blacks (other than those of Confederate roots) look down on the defeated Confederacy much like you look down on the Soviet installed Communist leaders there.
You don't know much about America -- we are not all evil imperialists or racial supremacists. In fact, most of us are not intentionally that way but many are only victims of circumstance or government policies.
That is the real debate we Americans refuse to have: a society of fair treatment and ending segmented hate. Eat the rich. Stop Food Stamps going to trailer trash and welfare cheats. Someone will always, 99% of the time, be more prosperous than you are. In my America everyone should have the same chance according to their ability to grab the gold ring. Not a free ride or a slap down -- just a fair shot.
That is Utopian and not really possible but a society that is more thinking in Egalitarian terms would be a good start.
