Mostly because they ran the Trump Campaign.
Meaning, while they were working to Trump, they were laundering tens of millions of dollars. They were committing crimes while running the Trump campaign.
Basically, more or less, a lot of people who worked for the Trump campaign or his administration are criminals. Today we have three people, you know Flynn is next, and perhaps Jeff Sessions later on. Jeff Sessions lied under oath about meeting with the Russians, and oddly enough we know exactly what he said because when the ambassador reported back to Moscow we read the CIA read the reports. Jared Kushner's father is already a felon; You damn well know he is next too - You can't tell me he's never committed a financial crime in his life. Kushner and company are already under multiple investigations, including a new one this week. Next up is Trump Jr..... By that point we will be knee deep into Trump's finances and well, you already know how that is going to play out.
This is just the first shot. While they keep digging more and more people will get caught up in this.
