Yes without Islam spreading so many things us Europeans would still be in the Stoneage. So how is it we kicked them out?
This is actually accurate, Islam has been historically spread by utilizing war, genocide, slavery and subjugation of the unbelievers (Dhimmitude - third class citizenship under the Islamic rule, including paying a special tax - jiziyah). Which eventually destroyed the original civilizations (whether it was Christians in Meditarranean, Buddhists in today's Afghanistan, Hindu in today's Pakistan, Persians in Iran etc.).

Entirely in line with the doctrine codified in the Quran of Medina (the latter part of Quran that deals with the subjugation of the unbeliever) and in the Sunna of Mohammad.

The only reason why this ever stopped as an official, imperial war against the non Islamic civilizations, was that the last Caliphate (Ottoman empire) became severely dysfunctional. Mainly due to its opposition to science ("nothing can contradict the Quran" "there's no cause and effect").

To illustrate - the printing press in the Ottoman empire was only allowed (as an exception to some very select titles such as "how to threat syphilis") in the second half of the 18th century and 97 pct. of the inhabitants of the Ottoman empire were illiterate. That made it certainly difficult to keep up with Europe after the enlightenment (after Europe got rid of the Church clamping down on scientific progress).

Still, the battle of Vienna in 1683 was extremely even and would hardly be won without the help of Polish legions, and those parts of Eastern Europe that were forced to live under the Islamic rule had to fight hard to regain their freedom.

At the same time, Anatollya (today's Turkey) was still Christian, today it's 99.7 pct. Islamic - this took literally hundreds of years and illustrates the effect of Islamic rule on any sort of "plurality".

Note that all this (the first and second wave of Jihad, the destruction of the classical civilization in mediterranean) happened way before the age of the Western Empires (Portuguese, British, French, Spanish, Dutch) and of course way before the existence of USA.

The only reason why the offensive Jihad stopped was because the Islamic empire became weak. So ever since. we "only" have local genocide (such as the Armenian genocide, two attempts in Lebanon) and persecution of minorities, or sort of a "proxy" violent Jihad, financed by Islamic states (and described in the west as "Islamic Terrorism"). Not to mention the ever more effective spread of Islam by Dawa, migration and overbreeding.

Btw. the main reason why the Islamic lands of today look the way they do is the same reason why Ottoman empire eventually declined - the influence of Islam (incl. opposition to science and education, widespread inbreeding) took a horrible toll on any sort of human capital, and after there were no more slaves or dhimmis to prey on - the economies collapsed (such as with pretty much every totalitarian regime).
