Sufism is to Islam what the Catholic religion is to Christianity. Mystical, with spell casting and extra stuff not from the Bible/Koran. False idols up the ass, etc, etc.
They killed them because to them they were worse than a Christian. They take good Muslims and turn them into infidels.
