I think Bitcoin Cash is definitely a threat to Bitcoin "Core", because there's now a coin which has sufficient volume to be attractive to miners. They simply switch to mining whichever is most profitable at the time. You can see the effects here:

According to the data on this page, for the first time since at least Feb 2016, Bitcoin difficulty has fallen twice in a row. You can jerk off about how great segwit is all you want, but this is a pretty clear indication that there's now some more serious competition.
There's also the chance, however small, that a fatal flaw in the client operation or crypto calculations will render Bitcoin (and possibly its derivatives) entirely worthless. That's worse than a Wall Street crash.
