It's strange that for most of history, controversial 'intellectuals' were exiled from their home countries (usually dictatorships and autocracies) and were forced to move to other lands where freedom of speed was more tolerated. Think of subversives like Lenin, who were thrown out of Russia and granted a home in Germany, despite his toxic ideas. Today, supposedly democratic countries like the UK ban foreign citizens (even American citizens) for saying 'unacceptable' things and yet are legally obliged to let in returning ISIS terrorists who are nominally British citizens.
