It's al about culture, and that's just the thing that makes people 'itchy'. In my opinion, people in the USA are taught (not sure about the spelling...english is not my native language) to love their country, land of the brave, hail to the flag and all that semper fi stuff. That proudness is a very important part of the US-identity, and in itself there is nothing wrong with that.
Other countries are much less into this kinda thing and to them this can be somewhat 'sickening'. The thing is that proudness and arrogance are very close to eachother, and are easily either mistaken for one another or even worse, leading to the other.
This tread is a perfect example of this.
