Roseanne Barr on supporting Donald Trump, and reviving 'Roseanne': TV press tour | OregonLive.com
An awkward reunion with ?Roseanne?: The revival of the once groundbreaking sitcom ?Roseanne? will, according to its star Roseanne Barr, confront the fact that people in America are divided when it comes to politics.
We got a preview of that during the press tour panel for the show, which began when a journalist asked about the parallel between the new ?Roseanne,? in which Roseanne Conner supports Donald Trump, and Barr herself, who has been vocal on Twitter about backing Trump and blasting Hillary Clinton, among others.
Barr, who has a well-earned reputation for being outspoken and not hiding her beliefs, was initially reluctant to talk about her own support for Trump and what role that may have played in making the Roseanne Conner character a Trump voter.
Barr asked Bruce Helford, an executive producer, to talk about why Roseanne Conner is shown in the new show to be a Trump voter.
?We had a lot of discussions in the very beginning about all of our beliefs, about all the things we feel and issue by issue,? Helford said, ?things we were going to decide what to deal with on the show.?
?Roseanne,? Helford went on, represents the Conner family, and a ?full cross-section of values and beliefs. Everybody in the family has a different take on things. And we wanted to get that debate going in a very honest way, in a very real way. So whether you?re pro-Trump, or anti-Trump or pro-Jill Stein, or wherever we?re going tonight, it was really about getting that dialogue going in an honest way.?
There?s no agenda on anyone?s part, Helford said, adding that the show is attempting ?to get honest feelings out there, within a family that?s relateable.?
