there is a group of middle easterners across the street from where my office is. they just moved here 3 years ago from India and own a liquor store. they money they are making is over the top (they are the only liquor store within a few miles radius). i asked one of the girls one day what they thought of this country and why they moved here (went in to buy a pack of cigs). she said this is the only country where you have the ability to make as much money as you want and to attend some the best universities in the world (excluding england). she said she and her family of 15 live a 2mil dollar house and every 5 years 5 of the family members rotate out of the country and go back to india (and 5 new family members come here to work the family business). she said if they could get an extended visa or even their green cards, they would live here forever and just send money back every month to the family in india who didnt want to leave their home country.

and this country is stupid.......

WHAT?! You only have ONE East Indian family running a business across the street?! Wow...your neighborhood is SO multicultural! (insert tongue in cheek here).

In this block alone we've got a Korean family running the coffee bar downstairs, a Greek family running the pizza place beside them, an Iranian family running 2 souvenir shops beside them, a Veitnamese family running the silk shop beside them, another Iranian family running the gift shop beside them, and a Japanese guy running the other coffee bar ot the end of the block.

Don't make me go down the list of the OTHER side of the street...lol

People who know Canada, and know Vancouver in particular, know it's a HUGE melting pot of cultures, and the point is, the US is not the only country in the world that offers great opportunities to foreigners who wouldn't have the same opportunities to be wealthy, safe, healthy and as happy in their own country.

It just sounds like you need to try and get out and see what other countries and cities have to offer to the less fortunate cultures of the world in terms of an alternative to the situation they're in now... I'm not saying the US doesn't do it's share, I'm saying that there are lots of other countries that offer the same opportunities as you all down there...
