Our country's founding document contains the sentence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

That is perhaps the most defining statement of what "The United States of America" means.

We treat everyone as an equal. No matter how humble their particular beginnings were.

We relaxed the rules for Haitians and Salvadorans because of the devastation of their countries due to earthquakes and hurricanes.

It is important, from a securiy standpoint, for the U.S. to be the one helping people from the Western Hemisphere when they need it. The U.S. should be the primary provider of these services because if we don't do it, someone without our interests in mind probably will (reference Cuba and Russia).

The Monroe doctrine was one of the most important principals for United States security, now as much as in the past.
