Here is what we would do, and what we do with anyone that even mentions WordPress:
Domain gets its own "user". Unique FTP goes with each user.
In your case, attach unique IP to the domain/user.
Install WordPress using Softaculous (automatic updating of core files etc.)
Add SSL certificate.
You're set.
Of course all of that goes on our daily backup system as well, and since it's a fresh install (not an already exploited install) we can "go back" in time when needed to grab proper working versions, if an exploit should happen.
Almost anyone with WordPress that we migrate in is littered with exploits. We clean all migrations with the above checklist in mind, along with a few other steps that we follow to ensure that exploits are not migrated to a fresh machine.
