It's also completely irrelevant. Who funded the opposition research and who did the opposition research is irrelevant. It's opposition research. The Democrats do it, the Republicans do it. It's not illegal nor or is it even remotely politically incorrect. Both sides do it for nearly all elections.
Who did the research is also irrelevant. Clearly you would never want someone is likes the candidate. You want someone who dislikes the candidate, someone who is going to go the extra mile to find out all of the dirt. This is what was done in this case.
We do not know the full details of what's been confirmed in the dossier - how much of it is correct, and how much of it was real. More of it was real than was fake.
They are placing too much hype on the dossier. The dossier merely one part of the puzzle.
