what would be really cool is if we as a global society actually cared about sexual violence towards women (and men-try being a cute non-violent male prisoner) and stopped trying to score points over social race, creed, econ status as it relates to sexual violence?
for real how many of y'all really care about this issue? I always feel in these discussions that it's more acceptable to be raped by a white xian dude. or at least when it's a white rapist no one ever tries to score points to bolster a tenuous/illogical position of discomfort, fear of the 'other', and racism against Black and Brown peeps off this incredibly common phenomenon?
still, the average sentence depending on the level of 'violence' ranges from 5-10 years in the US. many perpetrators receive far less time. Read Race, Space and the Law or scroll jstor for some case studies. men raped in prison get no recourse, reporting only makes it worse for them.
instead of forgetting history, remember that in the US the 1st wave of white 'feminists' advocated lynching of Black men to 'protect white womanhood'. Protection of white women and their sexual safety were common bedfellows with overt, violent racism
considering sexual violence affects (and is perpetrated) by peeps of all social race, gender, creed and ancestry/citizenship groups and deeply affects peeps lives, shame on those who use racism and islamophobia to pretend to care what happens to women (and men) in a world where it seems to be acceptable to hurt others instead of trying to change the underlying circumstances.
meaning y'all need to fucking change. no matter your skin shade, relig, ancestry, whatever stop fucking hurting us. then as step two realize y'all aren't enemies in this endeavor. actual care for other human beings. crazy I know.
