Most Americans live in their small town bubble, even those in big cities. The Internet and isolation makes people believe what they want to make themselves feel better and are scared of boogeymen everywhere.

I judge by actions, by events, not rhetoric. So when someone points out what I can observe with my own eyes and ears I tend to believe them, regardless of how uncomfortable it may make me feel.

Every country, including Germany, Italy, Spain and Russia (run by Fascists all) had the majority of their citizens going, "This couldn't happen here!" But it did. There's a lesson there, and those who ignore history are bound to repeat it.
