it's not that simple. The link with politics is indirect but it has everything to do with it.

The old media conglomerates all push for the agenda they've been in bed with since the start: The same old politicians (2 x bush, almost 2 x clinton) who advocate war, racial division by constantly talking about race while it's completely irrelevant and shutting up people who see through it.

This old media started shaming Youtube advertisers on their old media outlets for advertising on Youtube videos they claim as 'racist', while the racist videos were actually parodies (look up Pewdiepie & the wall street journal: Create outrage by placing his content completely out of context labeling it as 'racist' - race seems to be their favorite weapon - while it was a comedy bit).

The companies advertising know it's complete bullshit, but they also know they cannot reason with the part of the public who are still sleeping: These people have the attention span of a goldfish and only know how to react emotionally to simple, bite sized rabble rousing headlines. So the companies who advertise pull out to keep the drama and attention to a minimum, because they want to be seen as friendly to 100% of their potential customers, including the big part that are those simplistic sleeping idiots.

It was an attack invented and set up by old media companies against Youtube. They won that battle because the result was the "Youtube adpocalypse".
