YouTube can be useful of course but overall I don't find it as useful as it could be. I watch a lot of Ableton Live tutorials and they are not the easiest to find. You need to search for exactly what you want, which you don't always know, and then you need to click around endlessly to find good quality tutorials. They exist, there are a lot of them, it's just difficult to find what you want or something helpful.

In this scenario, I think there could be a tube of music production tutorials by regular people and "schools" alike. Every single person hitting that tube would be the proper niche. There would then be advertising for music software, music schools, music hardware, etc. This seems like a much better value advertising route to me.
That would be ideal indeed. It is just like SEO - the better you target the audience, the higher the quality of visitors will be for that market.

Unfortunately nobody can compete with youtube at the moment, they're too big, they're simply a monopoly when it comes to getting the most people to watch your videos. All other existing alternatives haven't been able to come even close to youtube. I do believe it will happen at some point (especially when youtube continues this self destructive agenda), but we're talking years from now.
