Google to Ban Cryptocurrency Ads
Google is reportedly banning cryptocurrency ads beginning in June. The company states that they will no longer run ads for what they characterize as 'unregulated or speculative financial products'. The site is looking to get rid of all traces of crypto ads including binary options, foreign exchange markets, and contracts for difference (CFDs) as well as initial coin offerings (ICOs).
The ban will exclude ads from appearing alongside search results, including YouTube and other third-party sites. Facebook recently implemented a similar ban which they said misled many of its users.
Christine Lagarde of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) stated, "The rapid growth of crypto-assets, the extreme volatility in their traded prices, and their ill-defined connections to the traditional financial world could easily create new vulnerabilities."
The move to ban cryptocurrency ads won't have much if any, detrimental impact on Google's $95.4 billion ad business.
