This is a side effect of owning a lot of domains that you may not care about. I've got close to 2000 domains. Have lost important ones a few times and paid for it in return. Learned my lesson and created a system so it doesn't happen again.
Part of business. Cost of business. Don't get too upset about it.
If you want the domain, buy it and move on.
