Measles is highly contagious and spreads like wildfire. Measles causes encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) in about one in every thousand children who get it. That's pretty serious. If you put a handful of people with measles in a metropolitan area, and if nobody was vaccinated, by the end of the month you'd have 50,000 people with measles. Just the loss of wages alone would staggering.
I'm pretty sure you've mention here a family member either dying or being seriously fucked up by a vaccination. That sucks, but that's the sacrifice we make to ensure the herd immunity
