Not only a country with a huge military complex. While the country itself is mostly kept in the dark, that same military and intelligence complex is basically peddling the interests of big oil.

Saudis and Qatar aka the US primary 'allies' in the region have the most at stake here. Syria is an essential transport territory.

Let's not forget that somebody also needs to pay all those, often Jihadi groups, that are operating there as the so called 'rebels'.

If that intended coup was succesful, a pipeline could be built connecting Qatar and its gas with Turkey. But any outcome other than wrecking another more or less stable country, is highly unlikely at this point.
