Not at all. If a NDA violates the law, it's not legal at all.
In this case, if Candidate Trump made a payment via his attorney it might be perfectly legal. However, if Candidate Trump's attorney made the payment out of his own pocket to benefit the candidate, that is considered an political contribution, which is in fact illegal. Of course, then the attorney has violated the law as well as Trump (lol don't tell me Trump didn't know about a $130k payoff).
Now... If it turns out the payment did not come from the attorney's pocket and instead came from a foreign country, that too is in violation of the law.
Then again if the NDA is an attempt to cover up some other illegal act - such as adultery - well that might make it illegal too.
No matter what happened, laws were broken.
It doesn't really matter. Now a second investigation has been officially opened up into Trump.
