Ok, I am still missing the asshole thing.
I do not think that black Americans have much fault in the slavery issue. I do not think we should use public funds or spaces to commemorate the Confederacy.
And yes, as a lefty, I thought the new memorial was powerful. Do I like it? It makes me uncomfortable and made us (you and I) have this conversation so it is effective.
On the current issues, yes the black community has lots of issues. It is getting better by every metric so maybe we are on the right course. It is just super slow.
