The same could be applied to the most northern territories like Finland, Norway, Sweden and Iceland. Most of Russia is located much southern than them. So I didn't get the sense of your post.
I don't know how come, but when some land is close to Equator (Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, most of African countries) it is broke. The same rule applies to Spain, Greece, Italy and Portugal. Do you know why they are members of the
