for me, the difference is their partnership with banks who are already using their products.

but yeah, technically, XRP isn't cryptocurrency. I wouldn't call it fake though. but it has significant tech differences from bitcoin. nevertheless, it's already being used by mainstream financial institutions and that's huge imo.
