I will explain it. The Ukrainians had a real motive to get it down. Actually that civilian plane was escorted by the military Ukrainian jet fighter (don't know why nobody mentioned it here).
The rebels could do it too because they have used only one single BUK unit, which can't track civilian airlines etc and works on a very short distance (those clowns just thought it was a military jet carier). The Russian army does not use BUKs like that. It does use the BUK complexes - at least 4 (BUK-M1) or 5 (BUK-M2) mobile units that work together. Since there was only one BUK unit, it was something rogue which could not be a part of the Russian army. It's like the American aircraft carrier alone... w/o any support group.
P.S. To the OP. I know that the "international investigation" is cool, but just turn your logic on. Maybe your brain is so simple and your logic is similar to 4-bit logic of my cat, but you still have it. Once again: just try to turn it on when you read "the news".
