He said you have to be able to walk away in order to get movement from the other side. If the other side thinks you are committed to doing something no matter what...then they have no reason to negotiate.

Also...the meeting is STILL on. Trump has said so. Not sure why you are saying it isn't.
At 3:36 p.m. Pacific time on Wed....North Korea THREATENED to pull out of the summit.

You can't threaten to pull out of something that isn't happening.

As for President Trump...these were the last comments he made on Wed.
"Whatever it is," Trump said, "we will know next week about Singapore and if we go I think it will be a great thing for North Korea."

So the premise of this thread is not correct.

As far as negotiating goes...I wouldn't be surprised if this meeting does NOT take place yet. Pulling out of the meeting is a powerful negotiating tool for each side.
BUT...the U.S. definitely has the upper hand and Trump knows it.
For Kim Jung Un to meet with Pres. Trump is 100% good for Un and he knows it. Trump is definitely in the power seat.

But having said that...Asian culture is different than ours. And as I understand it, "saving face" is a big part of that.

So huffing and puffing before the talks is pretty much expected.
And Trump knows that. He's negotiated with people in the Far East for decades.

As the President has said over and over and over: "We'll have to wait and see".

This is all standard "Art Of The Deal" stuff.

And of course...ANY negotiation can go south in a hurry. That may very well happen. And if the meeting does not occur, it will put the North Koreans in a dangerous spot.
It could very well mean military action and regime change.

That is something that was going to happen eventually no matter who the President was. The U.S. has long ago laid down the marker that North Korea can not be allowed to have nukes.

Trump has taken us further toward a negotiated settlement than any other President.

And the reason I said I don't believe ANY of these so-called "experts" is simple:
None of their "expert" advice helped any former administrations get anything done with North Korea.
If this "expert" is so clever and so knowledgeable...then why didn't Pres. Obama heed him and "fix" the North Korea problem? Or why didn't George Bush? Or Bill Clinton? Or Bush Sr.? Or Reagan? Or Carter? Or Ford? Or Nixon? Or Johnson? Or Kennedy? Or Eisenhower? Or Truman?

The answer is because these "experts" at universities are teachers.
And there's an old saying:
"Those that can DO, those that can't TEACH"
umm, yeah, no.

I tried to tell ya the negotiations were done. So much for the master negotiator.
