Marketing 101: Aim for everyone without risking isolation. Trying to fit in a character for everyone like ticking off a check list isn't inclusion, it's pandering and horrible for any story. If anything its an insult to any minority demographic unless it is done well or naturally.
You can make the argument that there are not enough strong gay characters in movies. I would even agree with you. But that is on movie producers not accepting scripts for these stories. You don't fix that by making Rick Blaine (humphrey bogart) in Casablanca gay for some reason. Does making Daniel Larusso in Cobra Kai bissexual help the story along? No, they didn't do that because it would be a ridiculous distraction from an already established character.
