There's more aspects to this, especially also the fact that, while today it's more fashionable than ever to blame absolutely everything on the worldwide minority of people of European descent, it has been Denmark in 1803 and then the British empire who abolished the slave trade in 1807, as the first in the world.
There were also more black slaves exported to the Islamic nations of North Africa and Middle East then there were ever exported across the Atlantic. Saudi Arabia for example abolished slavery in 1962, Mauretania has it officially going on today, in 2018, and it's going strong and tolerated in many more countries (Sudan, now destroyed Lybia, etc.)
