Stingrays have been a pet peeve on mine, not only because they are invasive to your right to privacy but also because the company building them Harris corp is in my home town and my uncle used to be their VP back in the 80s.
Anyway, what is particularly interesting is due to a NDA with Harris corp no police depts, FBI or govt agencies can disclose how these systems work. Meaning police depts, fbi ect..ect will not admit to using or even buying them, they use them in secrecy usually with out warrents and if its found out they were used on a case, then that case is usually dropped or pleaded down to nothing.
This article is about a hacker that was stealing social securty checks and found out he was caught by use of a stingray device. As he sat in jail he built up the most extensive range of info on these devices and was set to be the 1st case to go to court and be able to get more info on these devices, but instead the DA in charge of his case pleaded him down to time served..
